Try /var/log/setup.log, /var/log/setup.log.full

Either -lgcc is missing, or version 3.3.3-3 gets installed, or setup crashes. There are some other ways to crash it, all involving trying to get the right version of everything selected in the dialog.
You might be getting caught by some arcane setup logic with dependencies.
I'd recommend uninstalling all gcc packages and then reinstall all the ones
you need together. That should get you the versions you want.
