I tried this and got an error.

bash: vi: command not found

I did a default install.

A little more help please.

open a command prompt (bash)

type: cd /etc
type: vi profile
press: 'G' to go the end
press: 'A' to go to the end of the current line in insert mode
press: enter to open a new line
type: cd *path_to_wherever*
type: :wq

restart cygwin
