Having little experience reading the specs files (and the output of
-dumpspecs) seems to have lead me astray. I still think it may be a good
idea to ensure hardware fp by using -mhard-float explicitly (and perhaps
other options, like -march=i686). If someone knows a way to find out
exactly what all of the default options are, please follow up in this
