Maybe I saw the ImageMagick one on their own list. At any rate, I have resolved the problem. Formerly, I had tried using a memory allocation switch when I ran my app (openDX), but it was ineffective. After upgrading my 6-month-old cygwin version to the latest one (with Xorg instead of Xfree) that switch actually works; I have no trouble allocating half my total RAM. So, I guess we'll never no exactly where the problem was, but I'm happy now. Thanks! Allen H.
