Subject: EMACS problems with Cygwin 1.5.7.1
Date: Tue, 17 Feb 2004 10:09:56 -0800
MIME-Version: 1.0
X-WSS-ID: 6C2C8760216571-01-01

In case anyone keeeps track, I have been seeing the
same frequent crashes of EMACS on CYGWIN 1.5.7.1
that "Ehud Karni" <ehud at unix dot mvs dot co dot il>
and "Charles Plager" <cplager+cygwin at physics dot ucla dot edu>
have already reported to this list.

Grepping further:
   Thomas L Roche <tlroche <AT> us.ibm.com>
   Dr.. Volkmer Zell
all seem to report similar problems.
As do many other people.

It is highly likely that my problem is the
same as those guys report.

---

At this point, I am just piling on.
Sorry if you consider such an additional
problem report a waste of bandwidth;
myself, as a software developer I consider
bug reports gold; even duplicate bug reports
serve to show that a problem is widespread.

(How often have you heard developers say
"oh, that bug hardly ever occurs"
when they have filtered out hundreds
of duplicate bug reports?)

---

It is unlikely that my configuration
adds much helpful info, since others
have posted far more detail. Let me briefly
summarize:

cygwin installed fresh as of yesterday,
feb 17, 2004, from ftp.nas.nasa.gov server.

cygwin 1.5.7.1
emacs 21.2.12
XFree86 -base 4.3.0-1
  -bin 4.3.0-1
  -xserv ...-44

emacs crashes occur both multiwindow,
and in the single big X window (startx default).
