I saw your email address on your work and assumed you
took an interest in supporting it. Mea culpa.

"Hey, that's what you get for putting them in there,"
was a josh about just the sort of complaint you replied
with. I saw you coming, and warned you, but you showed
up anyway. Tua culpa.

You are correct. You were the exception, and I did not
intend to include the others in my assessment of the
whining. They were instead silent; "not helpful."

I didn't tell you not to put your name on your work,
nor to take others' names off work you revised. I said
don't whine when you get email after putting your email
address on a product document, and take your email
address off the document or change it if you don't want
email on that subject via that address.

Finally, as I've already told you, one of the darkest
days in the history of software development was the day
some tool discovered he could commit politics in lieu
of support.

I hope everyone understands my meaning now. I'm going
to go see if what Yitzchak said knocks any clues loose
from the build messages.

P.S. I'm on the list; you don't have to CC me, too.

In response to a (private) "request" for help that included the polite
statement: "I got your names out of
http://search.cpan.org/~jhi/perl-5.8.1/README.cygwin . Hey, that's what
you get for putting them in there." I (privately [*]) wrote the
following "BOFH-grade whining":

[*] well, restricted to the list of previous recipients

Mr. Houghton, there is a difference between a POC and a historical
record of major contributors. As with most projects, new contributors
perl's cygwin port are loath to remove the record of their predecessors,
and simply append their name to the existing list. Meanwhile, the
earlier contributors have almost certainly moved on.

I was perfectly content to ignore this, but I couldn't allow you to
accuse Eric, alex, Steven, Sebastien, and Teun of whining and
unhelpfulness. Unless you got other emails on which I was not CC'ed,
blame ME not them for any "whining" you believe is represented by the
above text. (Gerrit is around and can defend himself, and I really don't
care what you say or think about me.)

Gerrit: I suggest that you edit the README.cygwin file, leaving in the
names of the contributors (hell, delete mine if you want) and eliminate
all email addresses except cygwin AT cygwin DOT com, so we don't need to go
thru this exercise again.

End of my contributions to this thread.
