Sounds interesting - I'll have to give this some serious investigation. I like the idea of having the same software on different platforms. Could be very, very useful.

Oh, I'm going to enjoy this - seeing just how many platforms I can get wget running on. :-)

I've often fancied doing this with a few of the packages I like, but couldn't see a way of keeping it simple - until now. Thanks for the info, and I'm sure the OP now feels better equipped to solve his problem as well.
