Andrew,

I got the latest 4.0.13 src (see the link below) and then configured and
compiled:

$
./configure --without-server --prefix=/usr/local/mysql --with-unix-socket-pa
th=/usr/local/mysql/tmp/mysql.sock
$ make; make install
