For the record:
I finally found the problem of the slow access: it was
related to ntsec with my /etc/passwd.
I had a simple handmade passwd without the ntsec uid
strings, and when connected
to the LAN each time I tried to write data or access other
data on the disk the computer tried to
identify me in the whole network before storing the data.
The memory fault of xterm (and some other programs) is
still unsolved, but, obviously now,
it is not related to the major problem of disk access.
