I recently did a similar update. I'm not on a strictly periodic 
schedule, but rather monitor the Cygwin lists for [ANNOUNCEMENT]s. 
Anyway, I don't routinely use fortune, so I thought I'd give it a try. 
Look what came out:

% fortune
