I maintain a set of pages for introducing programming students to Unix
at:  http://www.cs.odu.edu/~cs252/unix

This document is "cygwin-aware", as I've turned a number of my
students other of my classes to the wonders of CygWin. It does include
some site-specific material, and is geared towards programming
tools.
