Do you have the Administrator password for your laptop? Or do you have
an administrator who does?

If so, you can just log in as Administrator (or anyone else with
Administrative privileges on your laptop), and run User Manager to
forcibly change the password to something else.

After you log in, you can change it using either XP or Cygwin. If you
directly change the XP password, you'll want to regenerate your /etc/passwd.
