Well, do not use FAT16 ?
IIRC every thing that is made out of many, many little files
will explode on an big FAT16 filesystem.
This is, because on FAT16 every file uses a integer number of
so-called clusters. If e.g. your cluster-size is 16k, even a
one-byte-file will uses 16k.
(If I am wrong, please someone correct this.)
