I think I said 'bash' in the OP.

Well, 'ls "/cygdrive/c/Program Files" ' works but 'cd 
"/cygdrive/c/Program Files" '  doesn't! The message comes back:
bash: cd: /cygdrive/c/Program: No such file or directory
