Hmmm, I am running 1.3.12-1, on a Win 98 machine with Zone Alarm,
I tried all of the commands you mentioned without a peep from ZA.

I went back to check if I had set something wrt Cygwin as a server
or something that would lead to no messages.  I found nothing
(other than the fact that there are some old programs in its
settings that I need to get rid of).

Oh yeah, I also checked ZA to make sure it was not in need of
updating.  Its current. (Unlike my knowlege of jsut about anything)
