I'm not in front of my Cygwin shell, but wouldn't the following be
better?

    cygprefix=`mount --show-cygdrive-prefix | awk 'NR==2 {print $1}'`

You command line is creating and destroying 4 processes, as opposed to
the above, which only uses two.
