It's far preferable to pass this as a parameter to gcc though. Once you get this linked in, it may not run. There are a few possibilities as to why, the most significant being the possible clash of C run-times. But, just take it one step at a time. Of course, all of this becomes a moot point if the library you want to link to has a C++ interface. Currently, mixing libraries from different compilers is only feasible with C calls.
