/dev/ttyS0 should work fine on cygwin, too.  It's not yet documented, though.

Look in the online documentation at http://cygwin.com/: "Special filenames" .

Asking if you can "try" something doesn't make a lot of sense.  You can always
try things.  Trying is the best way to learn, too.
