Um, maybe I haven't played enough, but I don't believe that the title
kludge can be implemented using the escape sequences. For one thing,
the prompt string is just a prompt string, and hence gets printed before
you type anything, and not reprinted until the current command finishes.
So, during the execution of a command, the title cannot be made to
reflect the running command name, which is what it appears the
title-kludge-in-CYGWIN-variable does.

Based on this thread, I'm actually using both CYGWIN=title (to see
running command in title bar) and escape sequences in PS1 to have useful
information in the title between commands.

(In case it's not clear, I'm pleased to be having and eating my cake,
and am not eager to see the kludge removed. Having said that, I
wouldn't shed tears or lose sleep if it vanished anyway, because kludges
are well, kludgey.)

Would there be any objections to removing the "CYGWIN=title" kludge? As
has been discussed in this mailing list, you can change the title using
escape sequences, which gives you, IMO, much more control over what is
displayed than what is available from CYGWIN=title.

So, any objections to my removing this kludge from cygwin1.dll?
