you're right. an objdump of mysqlc shows that it's being linked to the 
library cygwinb19.dll

if readline is all they need, they should grab a gnu readline. by the 
way, isn't mysql licensed under GPL as well?

i'm wondering, when they sell mysql under commercial licensing, do they 
sell the binary or the source code? if source code is all what they 
sell, and they do not include a portion of cygwin or any other 
modifications of GPL'ed code in their source, then they should be fine.
