How are other people handling that (AFS and ssh under Cygwin)? In
the archive I only found one message, I've tried to contact the
author and am waiting for a reply.

AFS and Ssh don't coexist well anyway. This depends on the
platform. For example there are no problems at all under AIX, but this
is because of AIX very special authentication mechanisms, which are
transparent to external programs, such as ssh. Under Solaris you would
expect that ssh would work with AFS through PAM, but it doesn't unless
you backtrack to an older version of ssh and then apply some patches.

If you connect to your PC via console, and if you have IBM AFS, then
you can configure to have transparent login to the AFS at the same
time. This is how I work with AFS on my PC. When I open Cygwin window
then, AFS tokens transfer to this window and everything works just
fine.

A nice trick you can do with AFS and Cygwin. Configure your AFS to
always mount AFS root (i.e., the /afs directory) on the same letter,
e.g., g. Then within Cygwin environment issue:

   # ln -s /cygdrive/g /afs

This gives you the traditional /afs mount at the root of your
directory tree.

Happy hacking,
