Heribert,

You are right that the file size do not match.

Ok, here is what I didn't tell you before:  The target drive was
SAMBA-mounted on a Linux system.  Believe it or not, I just repeated the
same exact operation but used a target of a local NT drive and bingo --
got a good bz2 file and it was successfully processed by bunzip2.

??? !!! @@@ ###
Why did the *tar.gz files and *rpm files come down ok but not a BZ2
???!!
I will try and sort this out to find out if Redhat or Micro$oft is the
culprit.

sounds like you accidentially downloaded ascii instead of binary,
so check that file sizes match exactly!
