Hi,

Try kdm -debug 1. This disables the "must be root" condition. Please note that
in debugmode
kdm could not be started as daemon.

The problem is that getuid() returns 0 for user root. Look in the /etc/passwd.
If have tried to set the user id of the relating user name to zero and kdm goes
on.
May be this is not a good way and there are other ways to do it better, but
currently I don*t know.
