I believe that this problem is NOT a showstopper for either cygwin-1.3.3 
or automake-1.5.  However, it's good that you're doing the poll Chris, 
just to be sure.

For the record, I am not. (No need for everybody on the list to write 
"me neither" messages; let's keep this to only positive replies.  I 
replied to the thread mainly for my OTHER paragraph, not this one.)
