In W2K there is no SYSTEM account I could log into according to ControlPanel/ UsersAndPasswords -> Advanced[tab]/ Local-Users-and-Groups / Users so as Admin, I ran: (filesystem is FAT32) cygrunsrv --stop cron && cygrunsrv --remove cron cygrunsrv -I cron -p /usr/sbin/cron -a -D -e "CYGWIN=tty ntsec" //root AT W2KPICASSO ~ $ cygrunsrv --start cron cygrunsrv: Error starting a service: QueryServiceStatus: Win32 error 1062: The service has not been started. EventViewer tells: [exclamation mark] The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( cron ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.
