Hm.  Maybe you want to try regenerating your /etc/passwd and /etc/group 
files with the -d flag instead, assuming the user is part of the domain
as well.  If that's the case, the user ID on the domain for this user is
unlikely to be the same as it is off the domain.  mkpasswd/mkgroup -d
should clarify if this is the issue.
