make it a function in your .bashrc and remove the !*

function newls ()
{
     ls -lrt | tail -7
}

Subject: BASH syntax for passing command line to argument

I saw your article on the web:

http://sources.redhat.com/ml/cygwin/2001-05/msg00956.html

I can't figure out how to convert the following cshrc alias to work with
bash:

  asic1-bstn:~>alias new='ls -lrt !* | tail -20'
  asic1-bstn:~>new
  !*: No such file or directory

My original CSH alias looked like:

  alias new='ls -lrt \!* | tail -20'

but that doesn't work either.

Please help, I would be grateful.

- Jim
