Subject: cgf does not want private email about cygwin

Apparently, I have to make it very clear that the reason for setting up
a mailing list called cygwin AT cygwin DOT com is so that people will send
their questions and observations there.

I'm not sure what convoluted thought process is required to reach the
conclusion that one should circumvent the Reply-To that I set in my
messages and send me email directly but I would like people to be aware
that I do not want to get personal email about cygwin.

Let me say it again: Do not send me personal inquiries about cygwin
problems, features, or ideas. If you have observations, send them to
cygwin AT cygwin DOT com

I am sure that I am not alone in this. I thought that maybe if I
sent email with this subject that maybe one person would be dissuaded
from doing the personal email thing. That would be one less minor
annoyance in my day.

Thanks to all of you who have already figured this out and have been
using the mailing list as intended. Fortunately, it seems that the
majority of cygwin users who need help "get it".

This is not an indictment against those of you with whom I've built
a relationship and with whom I regularly communicate personally. I
am more concerned about the increasing number of people who find
my name in a ChangeLog or, worse, here in the mailing list, and
fire off a message asking me about some crucial problem or other.

Again, I am sure that I speak for all of the regulars here when I exhort
people to USE THE MAILING LIST if you have any question at all. I
assume that most of us like to segment our email in such a way so that
we compartmentalize our cygwin efforts separately from our real jobs.
When you send private email, you are bypassing this setup.

Please don't do that.

cgf
