----- Original Message ----- From: "Christophe Prud'homme" <prudhomm AT MIT DOT EDU> ---------- Message transmis ---------- Subject: Re: Cygwin + Debian Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2001 11:19:20 -0400 From: Christophe Prud'homme <prudhomm AT mit DOT edu> To: Kevin Wright <kevin AT wright DOT org> <snip> Thanks Kevin I will have a look right now I am trying to port dpkg and related tools I ran into some problems with dpkg while compiling it without doing anything. I'll have to have a closer look now Christophe, have you read the threads in cygwin-developers about this? In summary there are 2 major issues with dpkg and cygwin today... 1) FIFO support is required for dpkg. 2) Win32 does not allow replacement of open files without a reboot (*And the method is different for 9x/NT) I've looked into this extensively before, to understand what could be done - I'd like to see setup.exe be able to bootstrap a dpkg environment - but there is still a lot of work on cygwin's "unix-like-ness" needed.
