Cary,

I used wget to fetch a few home pages off the net. One thing stood out as 
different in "http://www.lynx.org/" it starts with a blank line. I think 
that's legal HTML, but it may be throwing something off.

Perhaps there's also an end-of-line convention issue lurking here?
