I have inetd running on my NT4 machine all the time. Every now and again,
however, it just stops all by itself. For example, at around 2 this
afternoon, and then again at 2:30, the event viewer shows an event
corresponding to inetd, with the message "'inetd' service stopped".

Any idea why this is happening? In particular, twice in one day seems rather
a lot. Could it have anything to do with the latest cygwin upgrade (that I
installed yesterday)?
