"pdftex.map" is a unix style text file. For instance the line :

bchbo8r CharterBT-Bold ".167 SlantFont TeXBase1Encoding ReEncodeFont"
<8r.enc <bchb8a.pfb

produces the error :

Warning: pdflatex (file /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/pdftex.map): invalid
entr
y for `bchbo8r': too big value of SlantFont (167)

It looks like the "." (dot) is ignored (the same problem appends with 1.2
that becomes 12).
Maybe I should try to compile tetex binaries with latest release ?

Nicolas
