Hello:

I have created a recursive build package for my colleagues using GNU Make.
One of the users has reported the following error today, which I am
reproducing in its entirety with an explanation of what each line means.
The error went away, pretty much by itself when the user re-issued the make
command again.

I am also attaching herewith the cygcheck.out file that contains the output
of the cygcheck program run on the said user's machine. Thanks in advance
for any insight (and possible remedy) that you may provide.

Regards,
Sid R.C.

>C:\code\build>make
>Make: make -C ../boot TARGET=boot.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib
>NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.boot
>make[1]: Entering directory `/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'
>make[1]: Nothing to be done for `bld'.
>make[1]: Leaving directory `/cygdrive/c/Simba/code/l1_cphy_setup/boot'
>
>Make: make -C ../common TARGET=common.lib LIBDIR=submk IMAGETYPE=lib
>NOAUTODEP= SUBMKARGS= -f makefile.com
>C:\utils\cygwin\bin\make.exe: *** couldn't send signal 20
>make: *** [../common/submk/common.lib] Error 1

In the above, the user issued the top-level make command from the directory
C:\code\build. The makefile therein defines recursive builds in three other
directories, the first two of which are ../boot and ../common. The makefile
scripts in the two paths are respectively makefile.boot and makefile.com.

The command-line macros appearing in the echoed recursive make invocations
dictate the names, types and locations of the targets to be built by each.
