If you check the mail archives, you will find at least a suggested minimal
installation from Earnie Boyd. At this point, however, there is no official
minimal installation. To receive "support" via this mail list, you should
install all packages in the "latest" directory. You do not need to install
those from the "contrib" directory. Obviously, you can choose to install less
than this but if you run into problems, you'll be on your own. Many problems
of new users arise because they attempt to install only part of the packages
without understanding the interdependencies. This is why we currently only
"support" installations that follow the recommended policy.
