I don't understand that problem, really. My inetd is running as a service and it runs fine and it doesn't ignore /etc/inetd.conf and it's also the version which is the current version on sourceware. So what? Have a look into the registry under HKLM/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/inetd The "ImagePath" is set to <YourCygwinRoot>\usr\sbin\inetd.exe Under the subkey Parameters there's a value "ConfigFilePath" which has to be set to "/etc/inetd.conf". If that doesn't help you, you will have to debug that problem on your machine.
