Sorry, but I have to write another mail in this thread.

Just FY all I:

I have added a new CYGWIN setting called "winsymlinks" which will
be in 1.3.0 as well.

If CYGWIN=...winsymlinks..., symlinks are created as shortcuts,
if CYGWIN=... nowinsymlinks..., symlinks are created as system files
as before.

So you can have both. Default is `winsymlinks'. Since Cygwin will
be able to read both types of symlinks regardless of the setting
of `winsymlinks', we will have a smooth transition from the old to
the new method.
