Cool. Squid generates these multimegabyte log files that should be in DOS line mode format for analysis by non cygwin tools - I don't think there's as much of a in-cygwin-outside-cygwin issue with the majority of your packages (note: I'm just guessing here). I'm also not suggesting that automode is bad or useless. You pointed out that experience was the best teacher, so I thought I'd give the cygwin community the result of my experience. (That is that unix formatted squid log files do not analyse well under win32 tools. And yes I found out the hard way.)
