Earnie,

In both cases, the du executable came with cygwin that I downloaded.
The 1.1.4 du shows correct sizes, 1.1.8 does not.

I did notice that the version of du has changed from 3.16 to 4.0
going from cygwin 1.1.4 to 1.1.8 (that's why I included that
information in my original email).
I did not try to compile du 3.16 with cygwin 1.1.8.

Well, you changed two variables in your test.  You changed the version
of Cygwin and the version of fileutils.  Does you du that came with
1.1.4 show the correct values or the incorrect value with Cygwin version
1.1.8?
