It's been 6 years since I did any curses programing, but I vaguely remember writing a simple tool to capture the exact output of the application (all the escape characters) and then comparing it to the termcap entries. I also think that the various abbreviations in the termcap and terminfo files are documented somewhere and such documentation would probably be a huge help. Sorry, I can't be of more help. Luckily I don't have to use
cygwin as a terminal emulator because I'm using RelectionX.
