thanks, I tried:

export CYGWIN=binmode
emacs -nw

I got the same error message:
"emacs: standard input is not a tty"

I also tried

export CYGWIN=

[ie. nothing]
and emacs -nw

that was no different either.

Any other ideas?

Sagar
