A couple other things I failed to mention with cygwin 1.1.4 and the libgcj
downloaded from http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/~jb7216/libgcj/

I had to use the libgcj.spec provided on the webpage.   I also had to EXPORT
the LIBRARY_PATH but not the CLASSPATH.

Also, you need to modify the Hello World example.  The example uses TEST as
the name of its main, whereas the compile example specifies Hello.  Either
change the --main option to Test or change the name of main to Hello
