And HOW do I mount the directory in textmode? I've tried many different
variations of "mount", none of which have done anything.

I'm starting to believe this whole issue is the need to decide whether to
have POSIX filesystems or DOS filesystems. In Cygwin B20.1, by default
filesystems were DOS filesystems. The result is that a text file in DOS has
CR/LF. If written on a POSIX filesystem, the file would just have CR. I
think at this point I'd still rather use DOS filesystems, just for
compatibility with other tools, and to reduce the difference between the old
version and the new version. How do I accomplish this? As you allude to,
mounting the directory in textmode may lead to other problems. What other
problems might I expect to see?
