Perl5.005_62 is now available for cygwin-b20.1 on
http://cygutils.netpedia.net/.  Precompiled binary, patched source, and

This may be the last version for cygwin-b20.1. I plan to update my
system to either Cygwin v1.0 or cygwin-b21 (ie. development snapshots)
very soon. I'll keep this version available on the website for as long
as possible, to support slow migrators.

* it's perl5.005_62 
( most of the previous cygwin-specific patch was accepted into the main
tree. A few patches were rejected because the files in question changed
dramatically; changes were no longer applicable. ) 

* new cygwin-specific patch: 
  + change "CYGWIN" pre-processor define to "__CYGWIN__" 
  + a few changes to hints/cygwin.sh in response to perl5-porters
questions

* executables and libraries are built stripped. This includes the
downloadable modules I have provided, and any modules you build
yourself. To change this behavior, edit
/usr/local/lib/perl5/5.00562/cygwin/Config.pm and remove the "-s"
options from lddlflags, ldflags, and ccdlflags. If you're building from
source and don't want stripped libs, then remove the "-s" options from
lddlflags, ldflags, and ccdlflags in <PERL-SRC>/hints/cygwin.sh.
