Aaarghh! Thanks Chris. I keep on forgetting that Cygwin b20.1 comes
with a circa egcs-1.1 compiler, and that the "always -luser32" was
added since. 

Dave, don't worry about sending me the make.log now that we know that
your fix was indeed the correct one.
