Subject: Make's echo processes do not go away...why?

Using Cygnus B2.0, I find that echo processes called from
the makefile remain active even after the make file is
finished. Eventually, all swap space is consumed...

This is what the make file code looks like
	NESTING:=$(NESTING)+

        ifeq ($(IGNITUS_BOARD), CP750)
       @echo $(NESTING) ** This module is being built for: CP750 ***
        else
        ifeq ($(IGNITUS_BOARD), RIO860)
       @echo $(NESTING) ** This module is being built for: RIO860 **
        else
       @echo $(NESTING) ** This module is being built for: DIO860 **
        endif

Can anyone please help?
