The solution is quite simply to remove the '.exe' - but you can't go

mv something.exe something

because it says

mv: `something.exe' and `something' are the same file

(so it's 'mv something.exe something_else; mv something_else something')

Yes - parts of MS is braindead.  Not it's marketing department though.
