Using CR-LF for end-of-line pre-dates both DOS and UNIX.
Have you ever wondered why it is CR-LF instead of LF-CR?
It is because a paper teletype takes much longer to do a carriage return
than to do a line feed.
Sending the CR first allows you to send the LF while the TTY is still
doing the physical carriage return.
This saves you the time it takes to send one character.
Of course this only works if the TTY can buffer the extra character.
That's one new idea that will never catch on. :-)
