Thx a lot for your explanations - they improved my understanding a lot.
One more question, though - I normally prefer to use the U*ix layer
cygwin provides, but I have friends, who just want to compile and run
normal Windows programs without the U*ix emulation layer.
What would be the best combination of packages for them ?
