Yep, your assuming ;-) that libsocket.a exists.

This is saying that libsocket.a does not exist in the library search 
path(s).  If you "ls 
/gnuwin32/b18/H-i386-cygwin32/i386-cygwin32/lib/libsocket.a" you will 
find that it does not exist.
