I'm getting very similar behavior on a 200MHz 64MB Pentium (non-MMX) WinNT
4.0 system, running in a largish (1.5MB) NTFS partition, except it's
not bash, just make. A relatively simple make, which completes in
under 2 seconds under Delorie, takes more than 15 seconds. And then
it has a problem with VPATH, so it doesn't do nearly as much in the
15 seconds. Not much disk activity during the first 10 seconds or so.
